Grape Seed Extract - Polyphenols

Red Grape Seeds are an abundant source of potent, bio-active and anti-oxidant molecules. Among these molecules are found one of the most potent, polyphenols, a chemical class of molecules widely present in the fruit and vegetable world. Considering that the polyphenol compound has survived in fruit and vegetable tissues through evolution, it’s easy to understand their importance in nature.

The distribution of polyphenols in fruit and vegetable species is quit variable: berries, grapes and fruit colored in blue, purple and red have high values of proanthocyanidins (polymeric polyphenols), citrus fruits have high concentrations of flavanones, and tea is reach in catechins (monomeric polyphenols). Low molecular weight polyphenols give many fruits a bitter taste, while those at a high molecular weight are responsible for their dry, puckering mouth-feel (astringent).
